We are pleased to announce this special exhibition, a solo exhibition by the paint artist SHOGEN, "Territory."
The paint artist "SHOGEN" is a Japanese artist who was allowed to travel to Africa alone and learn to paint while living with the villagers.
Based on the "Tinga Tinga" painting style he learned there, he has continued to create works that explore the essence of human beings that lies deep within him even after returning to Japan.
Using six colors of paint, SHOGEN uses brushes, cardboard, and his bare hands, sublimating his work into new creations with a technique that seems to scrape the colors off the canvas like a Buddhist sculptor.
A new series of about 20 works by SHOGEN, which directly reflect his passion, are now available.
"The feeling of being able to enter a sacred place that I was not allowed to enter before through my work.
By creating in a disappearing place that people cherished, I was able to express the theme of a territory that should not be crossed as a human being by sharpening and scraping it away.
I want viewers to feel what is truly important in life."
