Opened in September 2020 in Hachioji, Tokyo.
We are a contemporary art gallery that introduces primary works of artists who continue to explore the essence of art, regardless of academic background or age, through various projects such as special exhibitions.
Gallery Statement
The Origin of the Name, Brunn
It is the sound of the mind's brain, which governs the soul, trembling.
Our Philosophy:
"Time flows, forms shift, yet the essence of art endures.
What changes is expression; what remains is being itself."
This philosophy is based on the artistic principles of our founder and contemporary artist, Yuko MIZOBUCHI, and is reflected in the gallery's space, which features natural curves, red, black, and brown walls, and a harmony of sunlight and industrial civilization.
On the walls of the 1st and 2nd floors, a relief of the letter "B" drawn by Mizobuchi is displayed. This "B" stands for "Brain" from the gallery's name, "BrainBrunn."
Furthermore, this "B" also embodies the intention to shake the primitive sensibilities that people inherently possess—the "mind's brain"—with a "Brunn" (tremble), rather than through words or reason (the head). It also symbolizes the desire for artists to freely express their works in the continuing exhibition space. It is also a challenge to the artists who will carry the torch from the present to the future.
From the Tama area in western Tokyo, we, along with artists who possess a strong will unbound by convention, will strive to create and disseminate artistic value and contribute to the development of the art world.
